God is a Father to the fatherless. This verse has been close to my heart ever since my father passed away when I was a teenager. Having grown up with a very wrong perception of God, I always pictured Him as far away and distant, formal, and unemotional. Over time and especially recently, Jesus is giving me new eyes to see what He is really like. He is showing me that He is anything but distant. He is more intimate, tender, kind, understanding, and welcoming than any other person could possibly be, and He completely satisfies the longing for love. He is a Father to the orphan, and a Friend to the lonely. He is better than I ever knew.
